TRACES is an ongoing, site-responsive body of work exploring how time becomes visible in landscape.

Landscapes are never static. Rock, soil and vegetation are continuously shaped by forces that often operate beyond the scale of human perception – through erosion, weather, growth, pressure and geological transformation.

For each TRACES project, Vicky Anna Lardschneider travels to a specific place and works directly within the landscape. Through physical contact with rock surfaces, locally gathered earth pigments and other materials originating from the site, the landscape becomes more than a subject of the work: it becomes part of its making.

The conditions of each place – its geology, altitude, weather, temperature, light and the physical experience of being there – shape both the process and the resulting works.

TRACES asks what changes when we begin to understand landscape as a living archive of time – formed by processes whose duration often exceeds what a human lifetime can comprehend.
